First Monday after leave

Back at work again… and it was actually pretty good to be back! OK, I didn’t like getting up that early, after several weeks of waking up when I felt like it, but otherwise, the day went pretty well. I’m two months behind, now, and trying to remember what, exactly all the projects are that I’m supposed to be working on. Good news–it sounds like I’m going to be working on a project soon that is actually related to what the Air Force sent me to school for… I suppose it wouldn’t do to get my hopes too high, but it sounds like it might have the potential to be interesting, and if it works out, there will probably be follow-up projects! Hooray!

It helped, I think, that today was absolutely gorgeous weather-wise–it’s hard to remain grouchy when the skies are blue and only a few cotton-ball clouds are floating through the sunshine… and the temperatures don’t break ninety (or the humidity, either…). I grabbed my book and went outside for lunch. Of course I have a sunburn now, but I think it was worth it. I’ve got to say–it’s so strange to have fall just beginning in October! Quite a difference from the last place I lived–Ohio. (Though autumns there were lovely, and cool, which I miss…)

Here it is 2 Oct and the leaves are gone up here by Lake Superior… we have had a bunch of killing frosts (first one on 7 Sep) and the cocoon of the forest has opened up and the necks of the bucks and buck hunters are both swelling. The early rutt is about on. The wild turkeys are all over the place and the loons have become silent.

To wake and greet the sun, to bid the sun adieu and then hit the hay… that is this old geezers way… The beauty is being a part of it all.
