Web 2.0 day…

Wednesday, 18 July 2007

It was maybe not a good thing that I happened across this site today… While some of my friends and family had already been teasing me about having such a “web presence” and being Web 2.0-enabled, today may have bumped the limits a bit.

I figured out how to start building a family social network, that I should join Facebook with the new WordPress application, that I can tailor-make Internet radio to please me, that I can surf the web socially, I can find local events (though sadly I think Montgomery has not quite reached the tipping point for web presence yet), and I can even help my cats have a web presence.

Oh, it’s been fun, but I should probably stop soon or my friends will probably start being very irritated with me as they get the invitations that so many of these sites include as a part of registration. I guess we don’t exist in a vacuum, now do we?

Though I’m not sure I’m capable of stopping now… I have a burning desire to check out 43 things and to add some books to LibraryThing (though at least the last I’ve had for almost a year).

Oh, those Senators…

Wednesday, 18 July 2007

I couldn’t resist… we have a case of cranky Senators who have to stay up all night

Forced to make good on their filibuster threat, it was the Republicans’ turn to describe the state of an all-night Senate.

A “political stunt,” said Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn. “Petty kindergarten games.”

“We were instructed to legislate, not to strut across a stage,” lectured McConnell of Kentucky, now minority leader. “This isn’t Hollywood; this is real life, the United States Senate.”
