Troops to Teachers billboard

Troops to Teachers billboard

I drive by this billboard going in to work each day–as you can see, it’s targeted to us in the military who are thinking about what we might do when we get out. The picture is of children, and it says “Meet your new troops.” (As in, think about getting a teaching certificate and serving by doing that.)

But when I first saw this advertisement, I thought that the point was that the children pictured are the troops who were someday soon going to be soldiers–that it was an anti-war advertisement to the tune of “Hey! These children are the ones who are going to be dying overseas if we keep fighting!” I wondered why on earth someone would target a military audience to get across such a message . . . Who on earth would be that twisted? Oh. Duh.

Having realized my mistake, I actually pulled over to take this picture with my cameraphone–probably someone else who was in line to get on base saw me and thought I was suspiciously taking pictures in order to “case” the gate. I might end up with police tracking down my license plate number . . . :) Then again, my car still has an Ohio plate so maybe it would be too much trouble.

Speaking of trouble, have you heard about the Egyptian students who went MIA upon arrival in New York? Now there’s something to make a person slightly nervous!
